Meet the Richmond, MI Doctors

Cynthia E Bailey, DDS
Dr. Cynthia Bailey grew up in Mt. Clemens, now Clinton Township. She graduated from Chippewa Valley High School in 1974.
After high school, she attended Macomb County Community College in the dental assistant curriculum and decided half-way
through the course to continue with her education and become a dentist. After all, her uncle, who also is her godfather,
was a dentist. She went three years at Macomb, earning two associates degrees in Liberal Arts and Dental Science. She
then attended U of M in Ann Arbor and received her bachelors in Biology in 1979. Finally, she attended the University
of Detroit (prior to being University of Detroit Mercy) and graduated from Dental School in 1983 receiving the
Outstanding Student and Crown and Bridge Awards. While in school, Dr. Bailey assisted at a practice which gave her
excellent clinical experience from working with several specialists, some of whom also instructed at the dental school.
After graduating, Dr. Bailey then practiced at that same office for a period of time.
Dr. Bailey opened her practice in January of 1984 from scratch. Even though this was a risky venture, Dr. Bailey took
into consideration that she liked to be in Macomb County and wanted some land for her horses. She had been in the
Clinton Valley 4-H Saddle Club for all of her teenage years; a 4-H group founded by her parents. She also was familiar
with the Armada Fair and the northern Macomb area. Her love of horses is her passion and still continues to the present.
She loves to compete and raise Arabians and Half-Arabs.
She also loves to garden, travel, and decorate her house; but most of all, she loves raising her daughter, Tess Marie.
Tess is Dr. Bailey's riding partner and she keeps her young. Tess just may follow in her footsteps and then the torch
will be passed on. Dr. Bailey provided mentorship to many people who became very successful; be it with horses or in
the dental field. She possesses an inherent nature to teach someone how to do something, even if they did not know
they had it in them to accomplish the task.
Through the love and devotion of her husband, Curt, she has been able to expand her dental practice. When they first
met, Dr. Bailey practiced out of a one treatment room office. Now, twenty- four years later, the new office has twelve
treatment rooms. Dr. Bailey has traits from both her mother and father. Her mother was an artist who enjoyed painting; which she passed
on to Dr. Bailey. Her father was an engineer and designer and he passed on to Dr. Bailey the love of constructing with
ones hands. Dentistry provided an avenue for Dr. Bailey to use her engineering and design skills while also being artistic,
she just has an eye for it.
Janet Larkin, DDS
Dr. Janet Larkin grew up living in Michigan, New York, and Kentucky. While in high school, she got a job as a
receptionist/assistant at a dental office in Sterling Heights. It was at this office where she became interested in
dentistry and decided that she wanted to become a dentist. She graduated from Regina High School in 1992 and attended
the University of Detroit Mercy for undergraduate studies. She attended the University of Detroit Mercy School of
Dentistry beginning in 1994 and received her doctorate in 1998. Dr. Larkin joined Dr. Bailey's practice in 1999.

Dr. Larkin enjoys going on "road trip" style vacations with her husband, Brian. Throughout her childhood, family
vacations were spent along the eastern seaboard of the U.S., including visiting national historic sites. Today,
they enjoy seeing the country in an "off the beaten path" way. She also enjoys scuba diving and her first dive was
while on her honeymoon.
Dr. Larkin has recently learned to crochet and to can her homegrown vegetables. Gardening is a pastime that she learned from her parents while living in New York and she still enjoys planting and tending to the garden. With a bumper crop of tomatoes several years in a row, learning the skill of canning was the next step. Now, homemade salsa and spaghetti sauce are a treat even in the middle of winter. Several of her patients knit and/or crochet and this, along with talking to family members, inspired her to pursue learning this traditional craft. Someday, she wants to be able to give hats, booties, and blankets to her friends and family at their baby showers, as her great-aunts gave to her family members years ago. Family is important to Dr. Larkin. She has been gathering data from her husband's parents and aunts to research family history, and will write a genealogical book in the future.
In her retirement years, Dr. Larkin dreams of owning alpacas. After visiting several alpaca farms, she and Brian have developed a fondness for these gentle and entertaining animals. Of course, after the annual shearing of alpacas, something must be done with the fleece- hence the skill of knitting and crocheting comes handy once again! So, hanging out with Dr. Bailey at her horse farm has provided her with valuable knowledge in the day to day operations of a farm.
